International Adoptive Parenting 101

The JCCA (Jewish Child Care Association, 120 Wall Street, New York, NY 10005) is a New York and New Jersey licensed agency with 20 years of providing domestic and international adoption information, referral, homestudies, post placements, workshops for adoptive parents and parents-to-be, fun gatherings for adults and children and professional training.

INTERNATIONAL ADOPTIVE PARENTING 101: BEFORE YOU ADOPT -- What you need to know as you prepare to adopt...

This 5-session evening series, starting 9/10/03, co-lead by Dr. Jane Aronson and Kathy Brodsky, CSW, LCSW, Director, Ametz Adoption Program, JCCA covers parenting aspects of international adoption. Sessions cover issues including how to promote development in a child who has spent their early years in foster care, an orphanage or institutional setting; the effect of early loss or separation; how does parenting (nurture) influence a child's personality (nature); evaluating referral information; building a relationship with a health care provider; what is the difference of parenting through adoption; living as a multicultural families; meeting your child for the first time, what to expect during your trip overseas; and parenting styles and discipline. Participants can attend individual sessions or use full series to meet the 10-hour pre-adoptive parent educational requirement of some placement agencies. This 5-session evening series, starting 9/24/03, co-lead by Dr. Jane Aronson and Kathy Brodsky, CSW, LCSW Director, Ametz Adoption Program, JCCA covers parenting aspects of international adoption. This 5-session series, co-lead by Dr. Jane Aronson and Kathy Brodsky, Director, Ametz Adoption Program, JCCA covers all aspects of parenting once back in the US with a child, including new routines, sleeping and eating, parenting styles, nature and nurture, promoting development, getting the most out of your early pediatrician appointments, effective discipline, multicultural issues, talking about the adoption with children, family, friends and others and choosing childcare that’s right for you and your child.. A follow-up to International Adoptive Parenting 101: What you need to know before your child comes home. Participants can attend individual sessions or use full series to meet the 10-hour pre-adoptive parent educational requirement of some placement agencies.
